Final Quest: Odyssey and Starship Scavengers

One of our regular backers sent me an exceptionally positive email praising the range of the output that we produce. It was lovely feedback to get and writing the title above makes me chuckle a little as I think of it. Ancient Greece on one hand (launching 20 August) and Starship Scavengers on the other hand! Well, I can only confirm that it is true...

This month sees us travelling back to Graecia (ancient Greece) which we last visited in the Christmas Advent Calendar 2022. How time flies! This time, we go there as the setting for Final Quest: Odyssey.

This was an absolute blast to write as I got to dive deep in Greek myths which I have loved since my childhood. For this new edition of Final Quest, we have a whole new sailing section which acts as a mini-game in itself and lets us spread the game across multiple island locations.

My life long interest in the Odyssey was rekindled a few years ago with the Ralph Fiennes film The Return (2024) but it was the announcement last year of the Christopher Nolan film that lit the game designing spark on this one. I drafted a few ideas but waited until I saw the new movie before getting down to things in all seriousness. The game is now complete and undergoing play testing whilst final edits and tweaks are made. It's been a glorious month of old myth revival for me -- and the film is great. I heartily recommend it to anyone. Ideally see it on the largest screen possible. Final Quest: Odyssey launches at 7pm, 20 August on Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thegrinningfrog/final-quest-odyssey

Odyssey has loomed large during early August but if we turn our gaze to September then Starship Scavengers is back! That will be for the tenth adventure. As yet, unnamed. And I don't have a cover (although I have lots of notes). It will be set in a starship graveyard and see your character travelling between multiple wrecks in the search of riches and it will feature new movement, and scavenger mechanics.

Before then however, we will be releasing a free adventure, because it has been a while since you've had some new Scavenger content! Ben has presented me with the core content this afternoon and I'm expanding and developing his ideas. This will be released around the turn of the month.

It features your character entering an unusual ship, one of a kind that we haven't had before! What's inside will come as something of a surprise and I don't want to spoil it but I can confirm it will be around 20 pages in length. I hope those projects look like fun to everyone. I'll do a fuller studio update next week.

Until next time, keep gaming. Stephen
